About

At ARANAYA, we believe that great food, like the wind, is best felt rather than forced.

Our Story

It started with the wind

ARANAYA began with two journeys. The first started in Seattle, where our Japanese foundation grew through Shinya Shokudo, an izakaya and yakitori spot we opened in 2020. Years of running it shaped how we think about flavor, service, comfort, and what brings people back.

The second began in Houston. Standing on the second-floor terrace of our future space in Uptown, we felt the wind moving through the building. We could not see it, only the things it touched, and that led to one question: how do you make the invisible wind visible?

ARANAYA
From the forest to the wind

The answer became the four-blade pinwheel

A pinwheel turns invisible air into movement you can see. From that small symbol, ARANAYA grew into clouds, sky, water, changing light, and seasonal color. It runs through our logo, our art, the room, and the way we cook.

Some of the feeling behind ARANAYA comes from the world of Hayao Miyazaki's Princess Mononoke, where nature is alive and people are part of it. ARANAYA is our own name for a place between nature and the city, Japan and the West, everyday life and imagination.

ARANAYA is an evolution, not a copy. The Japanese roots from Seattle stay with us, but Houston asked for something new: Japanese cooking shaped by French and Western technique, in a room that feels more artistic, romantic, and contemporary.

Inspired by the forest. Moved by the wind. Created for Houston.
